Angelina Jolie’s New Role In Maleficent

Angelina Jolie's New Role In Maleficent

In 2014, Angelina Jolie will make her debut as Maleficent, the villain who first appeared in Walt Disney's animated rendition of "Sleeping Beauty" (1959). In this new film, audiences will finally learn the origin story of this evil supernatural being, and will also witness the events of the "Sleeping Beauty" fairy tale through her perspective.

Maleficent is an intriguing character. She is a combination sorceress and fairy, and apparently she is part dragon as well - or, at least, she has the ability to transform herself into a large, fire-breathing dragon.Get more information here. http://hitchcockandpopcorn.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/angelina-jolie-steps-into-a-fairytale/ The 2014 film reveals, in addition, that the Angelina Jolie character's aunt is the Fairy Queen, though the Fairy Queen possesses no love for Maleficent. Further, the new film will also depict Maleficent's most loyal companion, a raven named Diaval that can change itself into human form.

The Walt Disney Company has released photos of Jolie in costume as Maleficent. While Jolie's skin is not green as the animated character's skin was, she retains the original character's striking red lips, as well as her pronounced widow's peak and the two long horns at the top of the head. Expect this character to become a popular costume for Halloween.

The King’s Speech is a Winner

The King's Speech was a historical British drama that came out in 2010.

This drama tastefully and, for the most part, accurately portrayed the working relationship and struggle between King George VI and speech therapist Lionel Logue. Through the film, the struggles and anxieties of King George VI were brought to the audience and laid bare for all to experience.

Colin Firth, acclaimed not just in the UK but the US as well, delivered a blockbuster performance as King George VI - the voice of the nation who simply couldn't stop stammering. Geoffrey Rush played Lionel, his oft-antagonistic and nurturing speech therapist.

When going into a film like this, one must realize that this is a story about two men of destiny. There are no gunshots, no explosions and very little to do with gratuitous sex. It is the heartfelt struggle and journey of two men who need each other not just for business purposes but friendship as well.

It's a character study that pulls no punches in the emotional department of storytelling and an experience that reminds us that the cinematic experience isn't all stale and played out.

If you haven't seen this film, you are missing out. Get out to your Wal-Mart, fire up RedBox, queue of Netflix or click here and get things squared away with a decent television provider.

Whatever you do, see this film! It's a must-see in every sense of the phrase.

Top Paid Female Actors In Hollywood

In 2012, Kristin Stewart was named the top paid actress in Hollywood, ranking number one on the Forbes Top Ten List. She was estimated to have earned 34.5 million dollars for her roles in Twilight and Snow White and the Huntsman. But long before anyone had ever dreamed of the popularity of Bella Swan, there has always been the true royalty of Hollywood. Those that came before here, paving the way for those who merely act.

Those that paved the way before her may not have earned as much money, but the acting chops they possessed outshone many of today's contemporary actresses. For example, Meryl Streep has long been considered as one of the the greatest actresses of our time, yet she earned a mere 8 million dollars for her role in the film Julia & Julia.

Julia Roberts started out with a meager 50,000 per film, and in fifteen years has managed to balk at such pocket change and demand upwards of 25 million dollars per film, in due to some part as her role in the movie, Pretty Woman.

Arguably, one of the finest actresses of our time, Katherine Hepburn demanded 1,500 per week in her first major movie role in Bill of Divorcement back in 1932, and she got it, much to her surprise.

Although Bette Davis, who was named the number two of the Greatest Screen Legends by the American Film Institute was one of the leading actresses in Hollywood, she started off at a mere 600.00 per week...incidentally, the false eyelashes she wore upon her death, auctioned for the same exact price.

Hollywood is a major player in the entertainment industry. Although actresses may bring the general public into another world through their acting skills, is 25 million per picture too much? It appears that even though inflation is through the roof, actresses will always be secure in the knowledge that their profession is recession-proof.

For almost 100 years, Hollywood has produced leading actors who've captured the world's attention, and ladies' hearts, with their craft, screen presence, and charisma. Stars like the silent era's Rudolph Valentino and Tom Mix, of the earliest film westerns, set the stage for the men who inspire and thrill us on the silver screen today. Channing Tatum has quickly become the most successful young leading man in Hollywood. From the romance of The Notebook, to the action of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Tatum's versatility is evident, no more so than in his new film, Magic Mike, opening this week.

He began as a comic actor on TV and broad comedies, but Tom Hanks has become synonymous with film Americana. Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan; these films are as much about who we are as nation as they are about the characters Hanks essays on the screen.

And then there's Tom Cruise. The quintessential Hollywood leading man, Cruise has balanced drama, comedy, action, and now, even musical work in an almost 30-year career with no signs of slowly down, or losing his box office appeal.

A Review Of The Avengers Movie

"The Avengers" has assembled an impressive list of talent to create one of the best comic book movies of all time.

Directed by Joss Whedon, this film gathers characters from several strong movie franchises, including Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor, to meet the challenge of a tyrant from another world intent on the domination of Earth. The stakes are high for this film, as expectations have been fever pitch since it was announced. Fortunately, the movie exceeds all of these expectations.

Whedon does a good job mixing humor and action, with such stars as Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson delivering strong performances to keep the movie moving at a speedy clip.

The effects are first-rate. The only drawback to the film is its use of 3-D. "The Avengers" was retrofitted to screen in 3-D, and it does not make extensive use of the technology. As such, the thrilling action and top-tier special effects make this movie easy to enjoy in any type of setting.

"The Avengers" will likely become one of the top grossing movies of all time for a reason. It is a crowd-pleasing film that understands what its massive audience wants, and delivers it with humor, energy and excitement.
